DuPont Fabros NJ 1 PISCATAWAY, NEW JERSEY
Forest NJ helped to build and fit-out a data center for DuPont Fabros Technologies. NJ1 is being developed in two phases on approximately 38.1 acres of land in Piscataway, New Jersey. It is presently anticipated that ground-up development of phase one will be completed in 2009.
The client wanted to build a highly efficient data center with increased power densities and high reliability that would provide an optimized solution for their tenants. DuPont sought to locate the data center around the leading brokerage firms, pharmaceutical companies and banking institutions in the tri-state area.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
NJ1 will cover approximately 360,000 gross s.f. and 171,200 raised s.f. and will have an aggregate critical load of 36.4 MW. Forest installed sixteen 2 meg generators, eight pillar rotary uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems, dual 26 kv feeders and distribution systems, and sixteen 3,000 amp 600 volt switchboards and distribution equipment.
Forest ensured that DuPont’s exact system requirements and specifications were met, assuring high performance, integrity and safety. To this end, Forest installed a fire alarm system, security system, EPO system and a high resistant ground system. Additionally, Forest installed and provided lightning protection for the data center.
Forest worked with other EMCOR affiliates, who previously fit-out data centers for DuPont, to ensure an on-time and within budget data center. Furthermore, the knowledge and deployment of advanced technologies allowed Forest to provide the client a significant cost savings and ensured a safer working environment. Such technology included the implementation and use of pre-cast concrete vaults in lieu of the standard poured-in-place method. Forest received, rigged and set in place two UPS rooms per day after the first UPS room was set in place. The entire underground concrete vault installation was done in five non-continuous construction days, whereas the standard poured-in-place methodology would have taken between 8 to 10 weeks to complete.
DuPont Fabros Technology (DFT) is a leading owner, developer, operator and manager of wholesale data centers. They currently have six properties developed in Illinois and Virginia and have several more data center projects in development. DFT data centers are engineered to the highest specifications commercially available, and provide sufficient power to meet the needs of the world’s largest technology companies. The data centers are highly advanced, secure facilities used by tenants to house, power and cool the computer servers that support many of their most critical business processes.
