Forest Electric New Jersey (Forest NJ) assisted Merck with an extremely time-sensitive data center relocation project, providing electrical installation services and building out the IT infrastructure. Forest NJ also engineered the design and installation in order to accommodate the building’s location within a 100-year floodplain.

Client Objectives

Merck had recently relocated their corporate headquarters and needed to move their core data center into an existing warehouse at the new location. Construction had to consider the warehouse’s location within a floodplain.

Solutions

Forest NJ installed a variety of components during the data center relocation, including:

  • A 5kV feeder from an existing substation to feed the rest of the system
  • Two 2500/3750kVA transformers
  • Two 2500kW generators
  • Two 3200-amp switchboards with automated breaker pairs
  • Four 800kVA transformers
  • Eight power distribution units
  • 80 400-amp remote power panels
  • A Systecon fabricated chiller building
  • IT infrastructure to support internal communications
  • 339 server cabinets and associated power
  • Installation of first generation transformerless UPS
